Your Car A/C Can Kill You!

Your car a/c can kill you if it contains a counterfeit automotive refrigerant, R134a.

According to a recent Motor Age video segment, "Motor Age After Hours", there is a rise of counterfeit automotive refrigerant, R134a, that contains R40, a chemical that can react with aluminum to form a potentially dangerous compound that can spontaneously combust when exposed to air.

Neutronics' Peter Coll says the counterfeit refrigerant blend has been documented in automotive recovery tanks here in the U.S. He explains also how the new refrigerant HFO1234yf came to be, and how it will impact you, and the a/c service world in general.
