Connecticut Bill of Sale Form and DMV Car Selling Information

When you sell your car in Connecticut, complete and sign the reverse side of the Certificate of Title and give it to the new owner along with a Bill of Sale. You may draft your own Bill of Sale, as there is no special form required. Alternatively, you may use the one provided here.

The marker plates from your vehicle should be removed and returned to the DMV with the registration certificate; you must ask that they be cancelled. You will be given a receipt when the plates are turned in. Keep this receipt for your records. In addition, contact your local tax assessors office for information on removing the vehicle from the property tax list.

Contact your local Connecticut DMV for complete information.
