California Bill of Sale
Form, DMV Vehicle Title and Registration Information
When you buy a
car in California, the DMV will need these items to transfer ownership of the
vehicle to your name:
- California Certificate of Title (Pink Slip) or Application for Duplicate
Title (REG 227) if the title is lost.
Signature(s) of seller(s) and
lienholder, if any, on the Certificate of Title. Signature(s) of buyer(s)
on the Certificate of Title. Odometer disclosure for vehicles less than
10 years old.
- Smog certification.
- Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel
powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs,
hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.
- Transfer fee.
- Use tax and/or various other fees.
